Bassist Alan Pinzón and keyboardist Jorge Pérez formed Equinox in 1997 soon after establishing Medallón Cósmico Records. Adding guitarist Alcibiades "Chivale" Villarreal and drummer Cesar Rodríguez, Equinox made their debut at the Balboa Theater in Panama City, co-headlining the show with Cast. Cast then invited the band to participate in the Baja Progressive Festival which took place in March at Mexicalli, Baja California, Mexico.
Equinox released their self-titled debut in 1998 to some pretty favorable reviews. The music had a sort of 'funkiness' that sounded refreshing and was borderline fusion meets hard rock.
In 2000 Equinox returned with Spirits Of Freedom, and unlike the debut, this album is sung primarily in Spanish. Additionally, only the founding members remained from the debut. Enter drummer Iván Canton, guitarist Pedro Caicedo, and new female singer, Dalys Toruño. With all of the differences from the debut, Spirits Of Freedom failed to hit it's mark. Ed Sander of DPRP said of the follow up that it was like "taking three steps back. A real shame because the former line-up really showed some potential."
Given that the band hasn't produced anything in over 7 years leads me to believe that they've hung it up. Anything could happen; however, if it is over then it's sad that they had to leave on a low note.
