COLT

                                                                     COLT
Heavy Prog
Poland

The Polish group COLT were founded in Tomaszow Lubelski and recorded their first demo tape in 1999. The band started as a trio with Radoslaw KOPEC playing the guitar, keyboards and fulfilling vocal duties, Artur MALINOWSKI on bass and Adam ROMANISZYN banging on drums. However, Artur Malinowski was replaced for a short period of time by Tomasz Groś. In the spring of 2000 the band relocated to Kielce. They performed some gigs in various line-ups there and prepared new songs which were recorded as the next demo in RSC Studios in Rzeszów.

During 6 days in February of the following year, the band recorded their first album, "From The Fridge", in UR Studio in Kielce. During this session Radek Kopec played sax and also took on the role of bass guitarist in some of the tracks. As a special guest, Joanna JAWORZ-DUTKA played flute.

The music composed and performed by the band, as the slogan on the back cover of the album says ("Hardrock trip into the progressive 70's"), refers to the early 1970's when the most ambitious and beautiful works of progressive rock and hardrock were written. Therefore, apart from typical-for-rock instruments - such as a guitar, bass and drums - COLT also uses hammond organs, various saxophones, flute, piano and acoustic guitar. Another reference to the 70's is the only cover the band recorded for the album, "I Want Your Love so Bad", a song by ATOMIC ROOSTER originally titled 'S.L.Y'. Other influences of the band which can be easily deduced from listening to the album are undoubtedly Benefit-era JETHRO TULL and early DEEP PURPLE. The musicians also cite as their inspirations such bands as FREE and URIAH HEEP.

In a way "From The Fridge" is a biographical album. It describes all obstacles the band met on their way and stigmatizes the people that turn their backs to the art and value material goods more. The album was issued by Wydawnictwo 21 in 2002. COLT's live recordings are planned to be released by the label soon. Radoslaw Kopec lives at the moment in London, working as a session musician and playing occasional gigs with various bands. After he comes back you may expect another portion of highly original music.
