Formed in 1996 by DEATH frontman Chuck SCHULDINER, CONTROL DENIED was a conscious attempt by SCHULDINER (one of death metal's originators as part of his main band) to pursue his increasing musical ambition. Progressive influence had arisen on the last few DEATH albums, but what set CONTROL DENIED apart from their predecessor is the use of a clear vocalist. The recording of the band's first album had to be delayed because SCHULDINER wanted to find a conventional metal vocalist to do the vocals in place of his raspy growl which had dominated DEATH's music all those years. He eventually found singer Tim AYMAR, and filled out the band's lineup with the same people who formed the rest of DEATH at the time. Sadly, SCHULDINER lost his life in a battle with cancer in 2001, leaving the group to disband.

Their album "The Fragile Art Of Existence" features the most progressive compositions that SCHULDINER made in his life, and is a worthwhile investment for any progressive metal fan who has ever thought that maybe they could get into DEATH if it weren't for the vocal stlye.
