AETHERIUS is a progressive metal band from the United States formed after the new millenium. The lineup consists of RMB (vocals, guitars), STB (vocals, guitars, keyboards), DJG (bass), and GSM (vocals, drums). The members use their initials instead of their actual names which has created a sense of mystery around the band. When playing live, they tend to wear black clothing and aviator sunglasses which adds to this even more. Their style easily compares to any of the benchmark Prog-Metal bands of the 90s, but they add their own touch through incredible groove.
Their debut album "All That I Need to Survive" is primarily groove oriented, interweaving ballsy hard rock numbers with intensely epic pieces of greater length. The majority of the vocals were performed by AETHERIUS'S drummer GSM, while STB and RMB take the lead role only briefly. The vocals are very soulful for the genre and they have been known to use the phrase "Progressive Music with a Soul" to describe their music to outsiders. For a four-piece band, they sound humongous.
The thing that stands out the most about AETHERIUS, is that it seems they care more about writing emotional and expressive music rather than showing technical prowess, which is something quite alien to the genre. Highly recommended to anyone who needs a break from the prog-metal mold.
